Finally found time to visit Serendipity 3 on Miami Beach. This place is a welcome site to the beach and Lincoln Road. I noticed right away why so many people enjoy this place. The friendly staff, whimsical atmosphere and interesting décor had me hooked as we were led to our table. As we sat, I was preparing myself for what I thought would be a five star experience.
The Big Pink had the biggest menu I've seen. Serendipity’s menu is not only more massive, it’s filled with good old comfort food - everything from burgers and fries, pizza, BBQ, ribs, sandwiches, soups and salads as yes delectable deserts. I glanced at the menu and quickly focused on the burgers. I was a bit surprised by the variety on the menu. I like having more than a couple of burgers to choose from.
We started by ordering the "All in Nachos", which if you are a fan of anything nachos, I’d recommend. They’re small enough for one but big enough for two, depending how large your appetite is. Since we were in South Beach I decided to go with the SoBe Burger while the BBQ and Blue Burger enticed one of my companions. It took a while for our food to arrive but it was worth the wait. My burger was sizeable, well presented and cooked to a perfect medium-rare and the taste did not disappoint. However, my sweet potato fries sure did. I’m not sure if they were sitting under a lamp or something but to my dismay, I couldn’t even finish them. Soggy and greasy is all I can say. Funny thing is my friend’s fries were perfect and so was his burger.
When it came time for dessert we all ordered something different. I kept it simple with a strawberry shake while the others went bigger and wilder. The “Can’t Say No” and Carrot Cake sundae were in order. My shake was good, but was it worth $9? I'd say no. I tried both sundaes and they were both really good choices. Beautifully presented, and flavorful to match! On my next visit think I’ll try the frozen hot chocolate and/or the banana split, and it better be worth the $20.
If it wasn’t for the desserts at Serendipity I doubt I’d return. There’s nothing here that I haven’t seen, heard or tasted. Our server was very pleasant but at times, seemed clueless. Not that I blame him for the wait time, but 27 minutes from the time we place our order and received it is just unacceptable. The fact that the kitchen is in plain view of the guest is not something I'm a big fan of. But listen, if you like desserts and want to try something new by all means swing by. I plan on giving it a second chance.
